Alternator, Starter & Car Battery Replacement Services

Batteries
Your car battery powers everything from the ignition to headlights. If you're jump-starting regularly or seeing a dashboard warning light, it's time to consider a car battery replacement. Our team offers fast battery testing, replacement, charging, and recycling services in St. Louis. Not sure how often to replace a car battery? Most drivers should check their battery after 3 years and consider replacing by year 5-especially in extreme climates or with frequent short trips.

Starters
The starter gets your engine going. Clicking sounds or a failure to start can signal a faulty starter motor. We'll diagnose starter issues and repair or replace the component as needed to ensure reliable starts every time.

Car Starting FAQs

What sound does a bad starter make?

A failing starter often clicks when you turn the key-but it might also produce a grinding or whirring sound, or no sound at all. If your engine won't turn over, schedule a diagnostic with Floyd's Tire & Car Care to determine if starter replacement is needed.

How do I unlock the steering wheel if it's stuck?

Apply pressure to the brake and turn the steering wheel slightly while turning the ignition key. This typically releases tension in the steering column and unlocks the wheel. If it doesn't work or the battery is dead, contact a professional to avoid damaging the ignition system.

Battery FAQs

What should I avoid when replacing a car battery?

When replacing a car battery, avoid letting tools bridge the terminals-it can cause sparks or electrical shorts. Make sure the battery is properly secured before connecting cables. Unsure how to replace a car battery safely? Our team is here to help with expert, affordable installation services.

What's the most common mistake when jumping a car?

The #1 mistake is connecting the jumper cables incorrectly-reversing the positive (red) and negative (black) leads can cause serious damage to your alternator or battery. Always double-check your connections and avoid using damaged or low-quality cables. If you're unsure, it's safest to let Floyd's Tire & Car Care handle the jump-start for you.

What our clients are saying about us

We have established longterm and stable partnerships with various clients thanks to our excellence in solving their automotive needs!

Drove in from Ohio Friday night. Car broke down on busy I-70. Called AAA for auto shop recommendations, they gave me two that were the closest. Called the first only to be told can't help us. Second call was to Floyd's. They said get car there in the morning and we'll look at it. Dropped car off, spoke with Nikki and left. Returned a few hours later and was told all checks came back good (no codes or mechanical history showing why it broke down). They ran car thru the paces and still found all okay. I cannot thank the team there that Saturday enough for looking into our car issue. This allowed us that peace of mind to drive back home. We highly recommend Floyd's to everyone who has auto needs. They are fair, friendly and go well above expectations for service. quotes-image

I drove to St. Louis area for a business meeting. 6 hour drive. Had some issues with my Dodge Durango on the way down, but made it in time for my meeting. When meeting was done for the day(around 6:30) I tried to start my car and found it would not start. I called Floyds. They had a tow truck there within an hour. The next day, by 2 pm they had left me a message saying it was fixed and I could come and get it. AND...the price for towing and repair were acceptable. Very fair and car now works as it should. Thank you Floyds.quotes-image
